Quickstart
Connect HeyDeer to GitHub, review an open pull request, then turn on automatic reviews. Starting a review needs write access to the repository.
1. Sign in and choose an account
On heydeer.ai, select Sign in, then Continue with GitHub. On Choose a GitHub account, pick your personal account or an organization and select Set up, or Open if a teammate already set it up.
2. Install the GitHub App
On GitHub, choose Only select repositories, pick the repositories to review, and install. If you aren’t an organization owner, GitHub asks the owners to approve; HeyDeer shows Waiting for GitHub owner approval and connects once they do. See GitHub app and permissions.
3. Review your first pull request
Your Reviews page lists open pull requests that are ready for review, with the first one selected. Select Choose another PR to search or filter by repository, then select Review this PR. HeyDeer uses the repository’s default review depth and feedback scope, and you can leave the page while it runs.
4. Read the results on GitHub
HeyDeer posts a review with inline comments, and the HeyDeer Review check shows the outcome. Later reviews check new pushes and resolve threads you addressed. See Reading a review.
5. Turn on automatic reviews
A new workspace starts with Manual only. An admin selects repositories in Repositories, chooses Change schedule, and picks Once per PR or On every push, or sets it for the organization in Organization settings → Review rules. See Automatic reviews.
6. Teach HeyDeer your codebase
Add an AGENTS.md with your team’s conventions and repository checks in .agents/checks/ for focused rules.
7. Set a notification email
Admins can set the workspace email for trial, credit, and payment reminders in Organization settings → Notifications. See Notifications.
Free trial
A new workspace gets a 14-day free trial with 1,200 credits, starting with its first successful review. It runs up to 2 reviews at a time and needs no credit card. When it ends or runs out of credits, new reviews pause until an admin chooses a plan. See Plans and add-on credits.
