heydeer

A second reviewer for AI-generated code.

Claude Code, Codex and Cursor can open more pull requests than your team can read. HeyDeer reviews every push separately from the agent that wrote it and checks each finding against the code, so agent pull requests merge only when they’re right.

Why agent code needs a separate review

In our benchmark of 16 pull requests written by coding agents, HeyDeer found 78% more real issues than GitHub Copilot code review, with the same number of false positives.

  • Agents trust their own reasoning

The model that wrote the code tends to miss its own mistakes, even when you ask it to check its work.

  • Revisions break earlier work

When an agent revises the same code again and again, each change can quietly break something an earlier one got right.

  • CI covers only your tests

Error handling, boundary values, concurrency and broken callers often sit outside what the tests check.

  • Requirements stick when reviewed

Agents meet a requirement more reliably when the review enforces it. Write it once as a repository check.

  • One AGENTS.md for both

Coding agents follow your AGENTS.md, and HeyDeer reviews against the same conventions.

  • Precision agents can act on

Agents fix what they’re told. A finding that’s wrong becomes a wrong change, which is why HeyDeer verifies each finding before posting it.

Let agent pull requests merge safely

  1. 1

    Agents open PRs

Have agents push to branches and open pull requests instead of committing to main.

  2. 2

    Review every push

Choose On every push and turn on Fail the check when issues are found.

  3. 3

    Approve by risk

Turn on automatic approval. High-risk pull requests, like migrations or permission changes, wait for a person.

  4. 4

    Require and auto-merge

Require the HeyDeer Review check, dismiss stale approvals and allow auto-merge, for example gh pr merge --auto --squash.

Hand the fixes back, too

  • Your agent fixes

Findings are inline GitHub comments, so the agent can read the review after each push, fix and push again.

  • Or HeyDeer fixes

Fix with HeyDeer opens a tested fix PR, and Autopilot keeps going until the PR is ready.

  • Detailed scope for agents

If your agent verifies each finding before fixing it, the Detailed feedback scope shows it more.

Frequently asked questions

Why not ask the coding agent to review its own code?

The model that wrote the code tends to accept its own reasoning and miss its own mistakes, even when you ask it to check its work. HeyDeer reviews each pull request separately from the agent that wrote it.

Does HeyDeer review pull requests opened by bots?

Yes. Pull requests from coding agents are reviewed like any other. By default, HeyDeer skips only drafts, forks and dependency bots such as Dependabot and Renovate.

Can pull requests merge without a person approving them?

If you set it up that way. Turn on automatic approval, require the HeyDeer Review check and allow auto-merge. High-risk pull requests wait for a person by default.

Isn’t CI enough?

CI catches only what your tests cover. A review also reads error handling, boundary values, concurrency and the callers a change breaks.

How does the agent get HeyDeer’s findings?

Findings are posted as a GitHub review with inline comments. Have the agent read the review after each push, fix the findings and push again. HeyDeer reviews each push.

What happens when an agent pushes many times?

By default HeyDeer reviews up to 5 pushes per pull request automatically. For agent workflows, raise the limit to Unlimited and turn on auto-reload so reviews don’t stall.
